Crafting Tips: Glue will always fail eventually

DIY and crafts are all the rage again. A big trend right now is jewelry made with letter tiles.

Many people are using glue on bails for these pendants and selling dozens of them.

Some glue or adhesives do work better than others. A two part epoxy is better than generic craft glue. Glues like E6000 are toxic and should be used with caution and proper ventilation.

Sometimes glue is the only way to attach a finding like for pinbacks for brooches. In that case it is best to do lots of testing and to really be certain the product you are selling will last for your customer.

Running a business is a long term commitment. You can sink your business by having to take too many returns, do too many repairs or by disappointing too many customers whose purchases fall apart.

When there is a choice it is best to use non-glue or non-adhesive connections.

We drill our game pieces all the way through and use sturdy non-glue and non-adhesive connections whenever possible so that our customers don’t have to worry about their jewelry falling apart.
