Caring for your Mystic Fire Topaz Jewelry
Mystic Fire Topaz has been “All the rage” for over five years. Many people have been able to keep their jewelry in new condition, but some have run into slight problems. The purpose of this guide is to help everyone learn to care for their Mystic Fire Topaz Jewelry.
Speaking as a metalsmith, I do not recommend putting Mystic stones of any flavor in the pickle. I would not recommend putting in the ultrasonic with any type of harsh chemical cleaners. Never – Ever put heat on a Mystic stone for any reason. Be careful when polishing repairs or newly set items with Mystic stones. Pre-polish the mountings before setting or re-setting. Only polish by hand with attachments on the flex-shaft and use a light touch. Many production shops in the Jewelry Industry have found out the hard way that a Greystar-impregnated buffing wheel spinning at 3850 rpms is not a good match for this type of stone.
Don’t misunderstand, this stone has a hard and durable finish that can last a lifetime is cared for correctly. Simply put, use a mild soap and water to gently rinse excess buildup on the stone. If the buildup remains, try an old and soft-bristled toothbrush and the soap and water solution. Mystic stones can be cared for as if they were Pearls or Opals. Pearls have a delicate skin and are usually cleaned with this same type of soap and water solution. Azotic Coatings, the company that has the patent on this stone treatment, recommends using “American” Windex Window Cleaner and “Jewel Bright”
